    Winnifred Selby co-founded the Ghana Bamboo Bikes (GBB)  in an effort to address unemployment and environment degradation through effective use of local resources. Bamboo being an environmentally friendly local resource, she co-created the project to make handmade bikes. GBBI presently has 35 employees, of which a majority are women with an average family of 5, and produces about 100 per month.

    Ghana Bamboo Bikes have gained international attention. Media houses like Forbes, Elle, ChicAfrica,  she has hosted a  TED talk with TEDx Accra. Winnifred also has a lot of laurels under her belt;  the UN/Habitat Dubai International Award, Global shaper with WEF, winner of the 2016 New African Woman in Science , Technology & Innovation Award, 2015 World of Children Honoree, and the Cartier Womens’ Initiative award, among many others.

    Winnifred hopes to increase the company’s production capacity, and aims at expanding the company from a single branch in Kumasi to multiple branches across the country. The future looks bright for this growing company that is environmentally friendly
