About Wilfred
Wilfred Chege is a third-year student at Jomo Kenyatta University in Kiambu, Kenya pursuing a degree in Business and Information Technology. Wilfred has always been passionate about entrepreneurship, in fact, whilst in secondary school, Wilfred joined a club run by Junior Achievement Kenya. The club focused on generating viable business ideas and testing them. This is where he generated the idea of Shulemall.
Immediately after completing secondary school in 2017, Wilfred and his team regrouped to work on the idea on a commercial scale. This attracted strategic investors and allowed the team to launch Shulemall Limited in March 2018.
Back to school
Shulemall is the first student-specific online shopping mall in Kenya with direct delivery to school or home. Students and guardians access the Shulemall e-commerce platform via the web or an app. On the e-commerce platform, students have access to uniforms, textbooks, vehicle tickets and an online supermarket. The payment mode is via M-pesa, a Kenyan mobile phone-based money transfer service.
In every school, Shulemall services have an agent teacher who is responsible for handling any communication to or from the students including but not limited to, defective goods and packaging errors. Shulemall aims to provide high-quality study materials and sources directly from manufactures and sells at affordable prices to students.
To date, Shulemall has helped over 15,000 students procure their study material.
