Every year we open up our applications and receive hundreds of applications from very young entrepreneurs across the continent. Although it has been more than a decade of celebrating Africa's youngest entrepreneurs, each year becomes more exciting than the last. Here is a quick look into 2021's application season!
We received 767 eligible applications this year. Although this was lower than 2020's total, this application season still performed better than other years.
The diversity in language representation is similar to previous years. English applications were the highest at 84%. French applications have decreased in absolute numbers but have increased as a percentage .
Majority of applications are between the ages of 21 or 22. With 2 applications under 15 and 58 applicants over 22.
27 sectors were represented this, 1 more than 2019's 26, with the top applications being represented in Agriculture, IT, Education, Consumer Products and Business Services.
2020 has seen an increase in
applications from East Africa. We received exiting entries from countries such as Comoros , Cape Verde, Burkina Faso and Gabon.
